Imagine a great venue...

The Carlson Building in Elizabeth, Colorado would be the perfect site for the first Feint Hearts performance. More on Feint Hearts later.

From the DNC at Invesco Field

The mobile blogging experiment is a bust. The camera in my Sidekick 3 mobile phone just doesn't lend itself to capturing what's happening a skidillion miles from the stage. Jennifer Hudson has sung the "Star Spangled Banner" and Sheryl Crow ("A Change Would Do You Good;" "Out of Our Heads"), John Legend and Will.i.am ("Yes We Can"), Stevie Wonder ("Fear Can't Put Dreams to Sleep;" "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours") and Michael McDonald ("America the Beautiful") have performed one to three song sets. A better camera or seats are a prerequisite next time.

Mekons, Swedish American Hall, San Francisco

This evening, my lovely spouse and I spent "A Quiet Night in With the Mekons," front row, dead center; not ten feet away from the band's modestly elevated stage. Brilliant. The band is celebrating their 30th anniversary and promoting their first album of new material since 2002, Natural.

I've included a link to nyctaper's recording of the Mekons' October 3rd show at New York's Blender Theatre at Gramercy. With the exception of the order of the encores, it's the same setlist they used in California.

Zappa Plays Zappa, Paramount Theatre, Denver

Tonight, an extraordinary homage to Frank, by his son, Dweezil. Thoughtful song selection from the Mothers' catalog ("Call Any Vegetable, " "Inca Roads," "Oh No!/The Orange County Lumber Truck," "Trouble Every Day," "Who Are the Brain Police?," "Idiot Bastard Son;" "Pygmy Twylyte") and Frank's first solo albums ("Tell Me You Love Me;" "Peaches en Regalia"). Dweezil's guitar work during "Can't Afford No Shoes," "Black Napkins," "I'm the Slime," "Regyptian Strut;" "The Black Page") was note perfect. Dad was proud.
